About Mount Sunzu Estate
Located near the shores of Lake Tanganyika in northern Zambia, Mount Sunzu Estate is part of a growing wave of specialty coffee producers elevating Zambian coffee to global recognition. The estate sits at 1,600 meters above sea level in the cool, fertile highlands of Mbala — an area known for its balanced rainfall, red clay soils, and excellent coffee potential.
Mount Sunzu operates as a vertically integrated estate, managing both cultivation and processing on-site. This direct control ensures quality consistency across every stage, from handpicking to final grading. The farm’s focus on the Stamaya variety — a regional hybrid selected for its cup sweetness and resilience — delivers a distinct flavour identity marked by ripe fruit depth and nutty warmth.
Flavour Profile
A rich and sweet Zambian natural with jammy fruit depth and nutty sweetness.
Pecan: Warm, buttery nuttiness that provides a smooth, rounded base.
Blackberry Jam: Fruity, sweet intensity with vibrant berry tones.
Brown Sugar: Smooth, lingering sweetness that ties the cup together.
Processing Method
This lot was carefully processed on-site at Mount Sunzu’s own wet and dry mill to ensure traceable quality.
- Selective Harvesting: Only fully ripe cherries were hand-picked to maximize sweetness.
- Floating: Cherries were floated in clean water to remove underripes and defects.
- Natural Drying: Laid on raised beds for a slow 30-day drying period, covered at night and during rain to protect against moisture fluctuations.
- Finishing: Once fully dried, the beans were hulled, graded, and hand-sorted at the estate’s facility, guaranteeing a clean, consistent lot.
This extended natural drying brings out Mount Sunzu’s hallmark jammy fruit character and silky body.
